John I. Wheeler, 90, of Hemphill, Texas passed away in Hemphill on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. He was a former sixty-five plus year resident of Beaumont. John was born on January 2, 1927, in Leesville, Louisiana to his parents J A "Doc" and Elizabeth Wheeler who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his beloved "sweet baboo", his wife of 68 years, Mary Sue. Two of his five brothers preceded him in death Louis Wheeler and Jesse Wheeler. John was a Baptist by faith, and he was retired from his lifelong business...

John I. Wheeler, 90, of Hemphill, Texas passed away in Hemphill on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. He was a former sixty-five plus year resident of Beaumont. John was born on January 2, 1927, in Leesville, Louisiana to his parents J A "Doc" and Elizabeth Wheeler who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his beloved "sweet baboo", his wife of 68 years, Mary Sue. Two of his five brothers preceded him in death Louis Wheeler and Jesse Wheeler. John was a Baptist by faith, and he was retired from his lifelong business John Wheeler Mobil in Beaumont Texas. He was passionate about anything outdoors - he loved to garden, fish, sit outside, drink beer and spend quality time with all of his family.
John was a wonderful father to his son; Gerald Wayne Wheeler and wife Betty of Beaumont; daughter; Brenda Williams and husband David of Hemphill; brother to J.R. Wheeler and Carl "Tubby" Wheeler.
"PawPaw" loved his four grandchildren - Stacey Wheeler Fischer and husband James, Molley Wheeler, Kristi Berryman and husband Jason, Jamie Stowers and husband Steven, six great grandchildren; Lauren Soileau and husband Todd, Ivy Wheeler, Camp Berryman, Caroline Berryman, Sam Stowers, Nellie Stowers, three great-great grandchildren; Cason Tate Speers, Tucker Logan Soileau, Beckham Trace Soileau, step grandchildren; Amber Rodriguez and Peter Cerritos.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 12 noon until the funeral service time of 2:00 p.m. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont, Texas.
